Basement Finishing and Basement Remodeling

Basement Finishing and Basement Remodeling in Southern Maine with BBA Basement Finishing System

Looking to Create a Fun, Relaxing Living Space in the Basement of Your Home? Or Do You Dream of Finishing Of That “Man Cave”? We Can Help!

Does your home in Southern Maine have an unfinished basement that is adding absolutely no value? When you make the choice to hire a basement finishing remodeler you will be adding significant value to your home while creating functional and luxurious space that your family will enjoy for years to come.

According to Remodeling Magazine Cost vs Value Report, an investment in finishing your basement will immediately retain at least 70% of it’s value vs what it cost making basement remodeling one of the best investments you can make in your home. And while we can’t always  count on our homes appreciating each year, even a modest appreciation of 2-3% per year in your home value will allow you to recoup your entire investment in your basement renovation very quickly.

Our Streamlined Basement Finishing and Remodeling Process

The goal of a finished basement is to create a basement space that completes your existing home and gives you the extra space you’ve been dreaming of.

The BBA Team has been providing basement finishing and remodeling in Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Wells, York, Saco, Portland, Scarborough, Biddeford, Sanford, Westbrook and surrounding areas for over 4o Years! This has taught us what works, and what doesn’t in the basement finishing and remodeling process.

We have learned along the way what we need to do to offer our customers a superior final product while staying on time and on budget. We know our stuff when it comes to basement finishing and it shows! Below is a breakdown of some of the materials and components we use when finishing a basement in Maine.

Basement Walls Designed to Withstand Moisture and Resists Mold Growth

We only use products that are able to be used in basement areas and are designed to resist mold gstyrofoamwallmaterowth and built to withstand higher moisture areas.  We do NOT use fiberglass insulation anywhere in our basement remodels as it is highly prone to mold growth, and once it gets wet it is rendered completely useless as an insulation material.

Our finished basement walls are insulated with 2″ of Dow Styrofoam Wallmate Insulation Board, which is 100% mold resistant and provides an extremely comfortable and “tight” finished basement delivering a minimum R-10 (R-Value) of continuous insulation. As an added benefit of finishing your basement the right way by insulating with rigid foam board, your well insulated basement can dramatically improve your heating/cooling year round.

Our walls are finished with Gold Bond Purple Moisture Resistant Gypsum Board and offer complete flexibility for paint, mouldings, and finish.  Purple Gypsum is mold-resistant, mildew-resistant, and moisture-resistant and ideal for basement walls and ceilings.

“No Sag” Ceilings Treated to Resist Mold, Mildew, and Odor logo_ceilings

Excessive moisture in the basement may cause ceiling panels and tiles to sag. That’s why we use only Armstrong Ceilings which are made from mineral fiber and contain HumiGuard™ Plus, a special back coating, which provides sag resistance. These ceiling tiles also come with BioBlock, a special treatment that resists the growth of mold, mildew, odor, and stain causing bacteria on the painted service. You have several incredible ceiling tile designs to choose from which to meet a wide variety of tastes.

Smart Floors Designed for Basements With No Added Sub-Floor Needed836218049155_05303497

Installing the right floor in your basement can make or break your entire project. Most flooring is not designed to be installed in a basement and we have spent many years testing various 100% waterproof floors for basements and believe strongly in Smartcore by Natural Floors and Cali Luxury Click Vinyl Planks for those looking for the wood look for an affordability and great looks.

These floors provide a 100% waterproof product that will never swell if exposed to water, and comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty. For those looking to go a bit higher end and want the look of tile, we use several products designed for basements and come with a thermal break and moisture mitigation built right into the tile.

And if you want the warmth and comfort of carpet or want a durable surface for your home gym, there are several options available.

Low or NO VOC Paints, Sealants, and Materials

When finishing your basement it is also important to pay attention to the VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) content of the products you use use in a tight, confined space. Most basements have no ventilation and once they are finished provide very little air movement. BBA Basement Finishing System uses as many low and NO VOC products as possible that allow for healthy indoor air quality and reduce off gassing so that you can breathe easy in your new finished basement.

Our process is so efficient that we ask customers to give us access directly into your basement, even if it means climbing in the window! We want to avoid any disruption of your daily routine while our in-house basement finishing team transforms your basement. All of our work is done with outstanding craftsmanship that will last for years to come. We Guarantee It for 2 Years, Double What Most Local Contractors Will Do!

Custom Basement Remodeling Services

We may be known as a custom home builder, but we also specialize in basement finishing, bathroom remodeling, and kitchen remodeling. Many of the basements we remodel also feature a bathroom and kitchen or bar area. Built By Adams is here to help you upgrade the most important areas of your home and guide you every step of the way.

We offer a complete basement remodeling service combining high quality products designed for basements, creative design, and professional installation. Think of us as a one-stop shop when it comes to your basement remodeling project as we will take care of it all.

On average, our basement remodeling projects take between 30-60 days for an average size basement of 800 square feet, once permits are issued and our team is on site. Expect to invest between $40 to $80 per square foot in Southern Maine to finish your basement from start to finish, and possibly more depending on finishes, complexity of design, bathrooms, kitchens, and more. At the end of the day, the homeowner really controls how much the finished basement will cost with the finishes and layout chosen, but this should give you a great place to start so you can plan accordingly.
